Style After 50: Your Second Innings Can Be Your Most Stylish

Fashion has no expiry date. In fact, for many women, the years after 50 bring something far more valuable than following every new trend — the confidence to know what truly suits you.

I like to call this our Second Innings — a time to rediscover ourselves, our wardrobes and our personal style.

Here are a few simple rules I believe in:

1. Dress for the woman you are today

Don't hold on to clothes simply because they suited you ten or twenty years ago. Choose silhouettes that make you feel comfortable, elegant and confident now.

2. Fit matters more than size

Never let the number on a clothing label define you. A beautifully fitted outfit will always look more polished than something chosen simply because it is a particular size.

3. Colour is your friend

There is no rule saying women should start wearing dull colours as they grow older. Jewel tones, pastels, neutrals and even a beautiful pop of colour can instantly brighten your appearance.

4. Accessories can transform an outfit

A graceful scarf, an elegant dupatta, a statement necklace, a beautiful handbag or the right pair of shoes can give even a simple outfit personality.

5. Comfort and style can coexist

You don't have to suffer for fashion. Comfortable fabrics, flattering cuts and practical footwear can still look sophisticated.

Most importantly, don't dress to look younger.

Dress to look like the best version of yourself.

Style after 50 isn't about disappearing quietly into the background. It's about knowing yourself better, choosing more thoughtfully and carrying yourself with confidence.

Your first innings may have been about discovering fashion.

Your Second Innings is about owning your style.

Tips on Preserving Expensive Clothes

Wrap the clothes in white cotton or muslin before storing. This will help in preserving the color and the sheen on the dress.
If you do not plan to wear these clothes for a few months, do not iron it before storing. It is better to iron it just before wearing it.
It is a good idea to air the clothes, away from direct sunlight, twice a year.
Never use napthalene balls along with heavy clothes with zari work on it, as they will get tarnished.
Avoid spraying perfume directly on the zari embroidery of such clothes.
If clothes have perspiration smell, dry clean them before storing them away and remember to give them only to a trusted launderer.
If the clothes have got stained while usage, never pack them inside before getting rid of them. They may turn out to be a stubborn stain.
Fabrics should not be over exposed to sunlight.
